Private PDF Signer

Draw or type your signature and place it on a PDF page in your browser, with no account and no upload.

Sign a PDF

Drop a PDF here or choose a PDF

One PDF at a time. It is opened and signed on this device, nothing is uploaded.

How it works: open a PDF, create your signature on the right (draw, type or upload), press Use, then click it in the tray to place it. Drag it into position, add today's date if needed, and save a signed copy.

This adds a visual signature (an image of your signature on the page), not a cryptographic digital certificate.

How it works

  1. Open your PDF. Drop it on the page or choose it. It is read into this tab's memory and never uploaded.
  2. Make and place your signature. Draw, type or upload it, press Use, then click it in the tray to put it on the page. Drag to move, pull the corner to resize, add today's date if you need it.
  3. Save the signed PDF. Your browser writes the signature into a copy named name_signed.pdf and saves it to your device. The original file is not changed.

Questions, answered

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Private PDF Signer runs entirely in your browser. Your PDF and your signature are read into memory on your device, processed with JavaScript, and never sent to a server. You can disconnect from the internet and it keeps working.

Is this a legally binding digital signature?

It is a visual signature: a picture of your handwriting (or typed name) and an optional date placed on the page, like signing a printout and scanning it. It is not a cryptographic digital signature with a certificate, and it does not lock the document. Many everyday agreements accept a visual signature, but check what the other party or your local law requires.

Is my signature saved?

Only in this tab's memory, and it is gone when you close the page. If you tick "Remember on this device", your last signature is kept in this browser's local storage so it is ready next time; untick it to delete it. It is never sent anywhere.

Is it really free?

Yes. It is open source under the MIT license, with no account, no limit on how many documents you sign and no ads. If it saves you a paid subscription, you can say thanks on Ko-fi.

Does it work offline?

Yes. After your first visit the page is cached by a service worker, so it loads without a connection. You can also install it from your browser's menu as an app. Password-protected PDFs are not supported; remove the protection first.

Was this written by AI?

Yes. Private PDF Signer was generated by Claude Code from a written specification inside an automated pipeline, with a test suite that runs in a real browser. The full source is on GitHub, so you can read every line before you trust it with your files.

Built by one person, given away for free

Private PDF Signer is a free alternative to paid tools like Smallpdf eSign PDF and DocuSign free plan. If it earns a place in your bookmarks, a coffee keeps the updates coming.
